Join Makoto Ota to explore magic, challenge death, and learn The High Cost of Living. What will fate take from you?
No one plans to die. Well, no one does unless they plan on suicide. A mother and her husband die in a driving accident that was waiting for them, long before they got in their car that night, and left a young boy to fend for himself. Death is a kind of cold you never want to endure. It’s standing in your birthday suit to wander aimlessly in the Alaskan wilderness, only to find an old rusted sign in Russian. And as you wander, fighting back, refusing to give in, you lose track of time. Weeks are seconds, months are minutes, years are hours. All slip by you like sand between frail fingers. And then you wake, taking first breath again. It’s like inhaling the used breath of a smoker of twenty years that is fighting off the flu; poison. And before you know it, your time is up. Just as you were getting the hang of it, it’s time to go. And you don’t… The universe has a funny way of making things right again. The cosmos turn against you as you become public enemy number one. Even then, fate has limited patience. And you learn there are far worse fates than death.
While I’m working on my next piece or two, I took the liberty of updating the literature section of my site. Now you can read all the new short stories as they come out, starting with Blind M! Dive into the futuristic setting of cyberpunk and glimpse into the life of a young girl and her first augmentation surgery. More of this and certainly more art will be coming soon.
While I identify with the cripple punk movement, I figured I’d lend my art to the cause. So here is my take on making a symbol for the movement with a cripple punk logo. Spread it around and let it be known that we stand united. Smash ableism, respect to cripple punks everywhere. Equality to all and to all a good night!
